Home Minister declares holiday for schools in Puducherry and Karaikal due to heavy rain forecast, authorities monitoring weather closely.
Home Minister A. Namassivayam has announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in Puducherry and Karaikal regions on Thursday following forecast for heavy rain. Puducherry received intermittent rainfall on Wednesday because of the low pressure that has formed in the Bay of Bengal.
The authorities of the district administration said that they were getting regular updates from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai and would take appropriate measures depending on the weather forecast.
District Collector A.Kulothungan had convened a meeting with officials from various departments on Tuesday evening to review preparedness to deal with heavy rainfall. Officials from the departments of Revenue, Public Works and Local Administration attended the meeting.
According to the president of All Moscow Malayalees Association, an outfit that is working for the welfare of Keralites in Russia since 1998, the association hardly had 180 Malayali members till recently. However, around 100 people joined in 2024 alone, while another 50 applications are under scrutiny.
