Spears’ brush with the law comes after she sparked concern from fans following the 2021 termination of her 13-year court-ordered conservatorship.
Britney Spears was arrested on suspicion of a DUI on Wednesday night in Ventura County, California, according to multiple outlets.
The pop star was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. local time, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said. She was released early in the morning on Thursday.
Spears was allegedly speeding and swerving in between lanes while driving a 2026 black BMW convertible prior to her DUI arrest, according to police dispatch audio obtained by Page Six and TMZ.
Authorities requested a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) who is trained to identify impaired drivers during the incident. It’s unclear if a sobriety test was performed at the scene.
Sources also told TMZ that the singer had her blood drawn and tested at the hospital during her DUI arrest.
