The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on Wednesday the Uddhav Thackeray faction’s plea challenging the decision of the Election Commission recognising the Eknath Shinde-led faction as the real Shiv Sena and ordering allocation of the “bow and arrow” poll symbol to it.
After much delay, Delhi will get its new mayor on Wednesday as the stage is set for the mayoral poll following a Supreme Court order after three failed attempts by the municipal body to hold the election to the top post in the past. The election to the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee will be held on February 22 after Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena gave his nod to convene the municipal House last week.
A meeting of G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies will begin on Wednesday ahead of the first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting under the Indian Presidency scheduled during February 24-25. The Union Cabinet, which meets on Wednesday, could take up the law ministry proposal to grant an extension to the law panel which advices the government on complex legal issues.
