Traffic movement was crippled, homes were flooded and people waded through knee-high water as heavy rain brought life to a standstill in the tech hub of Bengaluru.

Life came to a standstill in Bengaluru this week after overnight rain left large swathes of the city completely submerged.

Traffic movement was crippled, homes were flooded and people waded through knee-high water in many places of the tech hub as they tried to go about their daily activities.

The Karnataka government declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Bengaluru as incessant rain pounded the city on Monday and Tuesday (August 29-30).

Hashtags such as #BengaluruRain and #bengalurutraffic trended on Twitter as netizens complained about flooding in several areas as the rain continued to wreak havoc across the city.

Many were trapped inside their homes as water rushed in, while others were stuck in cabs on the commute to work. Civic body officials were soon seen deploying water pumps to clear out the waterlogging.

Poeple living in low-lying areas were rescued from their homes and taken to safety on inflatable rafts. As roads turned into rivers, photos and videos shared on social media showed volunteers with fish in their hands, caught fresh off the streets!
