He kept on se*ually molesting me: PCB suspends national level coach after female player brings up allegations

The complainant, in the meantime, said to the police that the coach was present when she went for PCB women’s trials in Multan a few years ago.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended a national level coach, named Nadeem Iqbal after a female cricketer alleged that he had molested her. Iqbal, who belongs to the Multan region, was a fast bowler during his heydays and made his debut in first-class cricket for the same team as speedster Waqar Younis.

If reports are to be believed, the country’s cricket board has already started delving deep into the matter. During his playing days, the now 50-year-old Nadeem was deemed a better bowler than Younis, who made a name for himself as someone who could swing the ball at pace.

During a match, Nadeem picked up seven wickets and helped his team bowl a National Bank team out for 20 in Karachi.

“Obviously, we can’t carry out any criminal investigation that is for the police to do but our inquiry will find out if he was in breach of his terms of contract with us," a PCB official, on condition of anonymity, was quoted as saying.

The complainant, in the meantime, said to the police that Nadeem was one of the coaches when she went for PCB women’s trials in Multan a few years ago.

"He got close to me with promises of selecting me for the women's team and also getting me employment on the board. But over time he kept on sexually molesting me and also involved his friends. He also had me video-taped and later kept on blackmailing me," she alleged in a video.

It’s not the first time that a member of the Pakistan cricket fraternity was charged with sexual allegations. Back in 2021, leg-spinner Yasir Shah was accused of helping a friend to sexually assault a young girl.
