Beneficiaries of Gruha Lakshmi scheme visit Suvarna Soudha, meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and share success stories.
As many as 21 beneficiaries of the Gruha Lakshmi monthly payment scheme visited the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi on Wednesday.
They took a bus from the home office of Laxmi Hebbalkar, Minister for Women and Child Welfare, to the Suvarna Soudha. After being welcomed by officers of the department, they sat in the visitor’s gallery to witness the Assembly session. They met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Chairman of the Implementation Committee of the Guarantee Schemes H.M. Revanna, and some legislators and officers. The beneficiaries, who included some members of the third gender, thanked the Chief Minister, who urged them to use the money for productive purposes.
Ms. Hebbalkar introduced Mabu Bi and Roshan Begum, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law from Gajendragarh in Gadag district, who had managed to get a borewell drilled using the Gruha Lakshmi payment savings. The Chief Minister also met Mallavva Meti of Raibag who started a library for the benefit of rural students, among others.
Mr. Siddaramaiah later told reporters that there was no question of stopping the hugely popular and extremely useful scheme for women and their families.
