Annual winter flower show at Mysuru Palace features grand replica of Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple with lakhs of flowers.
A grand replica of Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple in New Delhi will come up with several lakhs of flowers at the annual winter flower show on the premises of Mysuru Palace later this month. The floral replication of the temple with Dutch roses, standard chrysanthemum, chrysanthemum and others flowers will be the main attraction of the show that will feature many other attractions and flowery exhibits, for which about 12 lakh flowers are being used.
The flower show, a major event that the palace hosts after the Dasara festivities, has been one of the main attractions for tourists who visit the city during Christmas and New Year vacation. This is the 10th edition of the palace flower show and will begin on December 21. The show concludes on December 31.
The temple model of Sri Nanjundeshwaraswamy at Nanjangud, also known as Dakshin Kashi, and the statue of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar will be the other crowd-pullers at the annual event.
The 38-feet tall Akshardham temple replica will have a breadth of 60 feet and a length of 30 feet. “This will be the centre of attraction at the flower show. Flowers have been sourced from Bengaluru, Nelamangala, Doddaballapura, Chickaballapura and other towns for creating the replica and other exhibits. It is going to be an impressive replica of the Delhi temple,” said flower decorator Umashankar, who is overseeing the flower show arrangements.
The ten-feet tall Wadiyar statue, the 12-feet tall Nanjundeshwaraswamy temple, a frame created in flowers for the preamble of the Indian Constitution, the Nandi statue, Kargil war memorial, Gandabherunda replica, Bandipur forest theme, animals are among the other exhibits to come up at the show.
Umashankar, whose team is expected to finish the arrangements by December 20 evening, said older flowers will be replaced by new ones on the fifth day of the show, to ensure the freshness of the arrangements.
“The iron structures for the exhibits have already been created and the flowers are reaching Mysuru. The groundwork is ready. Carnation, ilium, orchids, and other attractive flowers will be part of the show.”
