Union Minister Sonowal releases NMPA golden jubilee song at 'Chintan Shivir' in Srinagar, marking 50-year journey of Mangalore Port.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal released the golden jubilee song of the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) during the ‘Chintan Shivir’ organised by Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
The song is a musical tribute to the 50-year journey of NMPA capturing its evolution from a mere roadstead to a major shipping hub. The song resonates with the spirit of progress, development, and cultural heritage of the region encapsulated through rich lyrical expressions and a fusion of traditional and contemporary music, a release from NMPA said.
New Mangalore Port, Karnataka’s maritime gateway, was inaugurated in January 1975. From handling one lakh tonnes initially, it has grown into a major regional hub, now handling 46 million metric tonnes annually.
The golden jubilee celebrations of NMPA will include a series of events throughout this year. NMPA proposes to inaugurate a 150-bed port hospital (being developed on PPP model), and release a commemorative stamp, commemorative coin, and coffee table book. Various port developmental projects and CSR initiatives benefiting the local community will also be launched, the release said.
Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shantanu Thakur and A.V. Ramana, Chairman, NMPA, were present on the occasion.

India’s gem and jewellery industry continues to demonstrate remarkable resilience and a spirit of innovation, said Kirit Bhansali, chairman of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), at the inauguration of the 4th edition of IIJS Bharat-Tritiya 2026 at Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) here on Saturday, March 21.
