Fourth Telangana State Police Sports Meet begins in Cyberabad
The fourth Telangana State Police Sports and Games Meet-2026 commenced at the Cyberabad Police Parade Ground on Wednesday.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy attended as the chief guest and received a ceremonial police salute on arrival. The sports lamp was presented by Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh and formally lit by the DGP to inaugurate the competitions. Amidst police honours, the DGP fired a gun salute and released balloons to signal the start of the meet.
Addressing the gathering, the DGP lauded the force for handling recent assignments, including the Global Summit, international football matches, Gram Panchayat and Municipal elections, and the Medaram Jatara, with dedication and professionalism. He said that although police personnel are constantly engaged in maintaining law and order, participation in sports brings renewed enthusiasm and energy. Emphasising the importance of physical fitness, he urged officers to make exercise a daily habit.
He noted that sport nurtures leadership qualities, team spirit and unity, and strengthens both physical and mental resilience. He also called for greater representation of women across departments and encouraged them to display leadership and talent.
Cyberabad CP highlighted that 2,532 players from 33 districts were participating, including 300 women. Competitions are being conducted in 31 sports categories, with 14 events reserved for women. He announced that Telangana would host the All India Police Football Competition in Cyberabad next month. He also outlined incentives for national-level winners, including cash awards of ₹3 lakh for gold, ₹2 lakh for silver and ₹1 lakh for bronze, along with increments.
Several sportspersons, who have excelled at the international level, including Arjuna Awardee S. Jayaram, were honoured with medals. Teams from multiple zones, commissionerates and specialised units, including Greyhounds, Octopus, Intelligence, CID, IT and Communications, ministerial staff and the Telangana State Police Academy, are taking part in the meet. The DGP later watched a volleyball match and interacted with students of the Young India Police School.
