
Four persons arrested on charge of attempt to murder at Malpe in Udupi district of Karnataka, minor boy detained

Four arrested for attempted murder in Malpe, Karnataka; a minor also detained, as police investigate violent beach altercation.
Malpe police arrested four persons on March 4 and secured a minor boy in conflict with law, on the charges of attempting to murder a person and grievously assaulting four others near Malpe beach, in Udupi district of Karnataka, on the night of March 3.
Police gave the names of the accused as Amruth Bhandary, 22, Prajnesh, 22, and Punith Poojary, 24, all residents of Moodu Palimaru, Kapu taluk, and Abhijit, 20, resident of Inna village in Karkala taluk.
While the four accused would be produced before the jurisdictional magistrate, the minor boy would be produced before the juvenile justice board, police said.
Complainant Santhosh A. Amin told the police that he, along with Manjunath Salian alias Manju Kola, Dhanush, Lathish and Varun, was sitting near a guest house at Malpe when Amruth Bhandary came along with the other accused. A quarrel broke out between the accused and the friends of the complainant on the issue of Bhandary’s sister. The accused allegedly abused Manju Kola before one of them took out a knife from his trouser pocket and stabbed the former in the stomach. They also allegedly stabbed Varun and Lathish besides assaulting Santhosh Amin and Dhanush.
Based on the complaint, police registered cases under sections relating to unlawful assembly, rioting, attempt to murder, and other related provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita.
Malpe Police Sub-Inspector Eranna Shiragumpi and team arrested the accused under the guidance of Udupi Deputy Superintendent of Police K.U. Belliyappa.
