
Four killed as bus overturns on NH-44 in Nizamabad district

Four people died and several were injured when a bus overturned on NH-44 in Nizamabad district, prompting an investigation.
Four people were killed and several others injured after a private bus travelling from Hyderabad towards Akola in Maharashtra overturned on National Highway 44 at Dichpally in Nizamabad district in the early hours of Friday (March 13, 2026).
The deceased were identified as Manjusha, 30, her seven-year-old son Rishi. While the body of Abbas, 40, has been identified, the identity of another male victim is yet to be established. The injured passengers were shifted to the Government General Hospital in Nizamabad for treatment.
According to Dichpally Circle Inspector Vinod, the accident was reported at around 2.30 a.m. when the bus, operated by Khurana Travels, was passing through Dichpally. Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver may have dozed off at the wheel.
“In that situation the vehicle swerved to the left, crashed into a rock on the roadside and turned turtle. Those who were crushed under the bus died on the spot, while several others, including the driver and the cleaner, sustained injuries,” he said.
A total of 23 people, including the driver and the cleaner, were travelling in the bus from Hyderabad to Akola at the time of the accident.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials said the driver would be taken into custody after he is discharged from hospital. Efforts are also underway to identify the fourth deceased.
