Three-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O. Panneerselvam is likely to join the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party on Friday (February 27, 2026) in the presence of Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin at the DMK headquarters.
Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are slated to be held in 2026.
The ousted AIADMK coordinator, on February 24, said senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had told him that the DMK-led alliance remained “strong”, and would win the Assembly election against the AIADMK “that is not united”.
Mr. Panneerselvam called on CM Stalin on February 21, on the premises of the House and said the ruling DMK stood a chance of retaining power.
Former AIADMK Minister and sitting MLA R. Vaithilingam, on January 21, submitted his resignation from the Assembly and later joined the DMK in Chennai. A known supporter of Mr. Panneerselvam, Mr. Vaithilingam is the second MLA aligned with Mr. Panneerselvam to switch allegiance to the DMK after P.H. Manoj.
