Rupjyoti Kurmi, who recently quit Congress, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Dhemaji today. Rupjyoti Kurmi who was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Mariani constituency in Jorhat district had resigned from the Congress on June 18. He also tendered his resignation as a member of the Assam Assembly to Speaker Biswajit Daimary.
