Forest fire burning near Mount Uniacke under control

A fire burning in a wooded area near Mount Uniacke, N.S. is under control, according to Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department Chief Ryan Richard.
Richard said plans were in place to evacuate around six homes but it turned out be unnecessary.
Around 60 firefighters from 12 fire departments responded to the fire along with the RCMP and EHS, Richard said.
The fire is in a remote area and crews were still working on hot spots. Richards expected crews to be there for a few more hours.
He said there were a few minor injuries and heat exhaustion among fire personnel at the scene.
Traffic was delayed on Highway 1 in Mount Uniacke near Pentz Drive due to the fire but both lanes have reopened.
The fire was close to two hectares in size as of Saturday afternoon, the Department of Natural Resources said on Twitter.
The department was on scene with ground crews and a helicopter.
Area resident Angela Light said she noticed smoke in her backyard on Saturday morning and called the fire department.
Light said crews arrived quickly and worked all day to control the fire. She said she was trying to help responders without getting in the way.
"I just fired a bunch of water in the fridge for them just because it's hot, it's 40 degrees and they're in uniforms and fighting a fire," Light said.
There is currently a provincewide burn ban in Nova Scotia.
