All flight operations were stopped for almost an hour after the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning for an approaching storm.
All flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were stopped for some time on Thursday evening after the IMD issued a thunderstorm warning. However, less than an hour after it was stopped, flight operations resumed and things returned to normal.
The Indian Meteorological Department(IMD) said a thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds might occur in North Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, South-West Delhi and over adjoining areas in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The thunderstorm was expected to occur on Thursday evening with a wind speed of 30-40km/hr.
The thunderstorm warning came after the capital observed a drop in the maximum temperature on Tuesday. After reeling under a severe heatwave for the previous five days, the maximum temperature dropped below 40 degrees Celsius in Delhi on April 12.
