Flag hoisted at Palani temple for ‘Thai Poosam’ festival

Annual 'Thai Poosam' festival at Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani begins with holy flag hoisting ceremony.
Marking the commencement of the ‘Thai Poosam’ festival at Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani in Dindigul district - one of the six holy Abodes of Lord Muruga - the holy flag was hoisted at Periyanayaki Amman temple on Wednesday.
The holy flag was hoisted amidst chanting of hymns. Special pujas were conducted at the temple to the deity and the Kodimaram (flag mast).
The celestial wedding would take place on February 10. On the following day, February 11, ‘Thai Poosam’ would be celebrated which would be followed by the holy Car festival. The festival will conclude on February 14 with ‘Theppa Ther’.
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department officials: Joint Commissioner S. Marimuthu, Deputy Commissioner R.S. Venkatesh, Assistant Commissioner S. Lakshmi, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Sri Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple K.M. Subramanian and others were present.
Earlier, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P. K. Sekarbabu after presiding over a meeting on the arrangements being made for ‘Thai Poosam’ said that adequate arrangements were being made to provide annadhanam, drinking water, toilet facilities, medical assistance and accommodation for the devotees during the event.
Last year, around 12 lakh devotees participated in the festival. This year, more devotees were expected, he said. The Minister had inaugurated the renovated car of Periyanayaki Amman Temple last month.
