The Additional Commissioner's court in Ranchi has sentenced five men to life imprisonment for killing advocate Ram Pravesh in 2019.
The Additional Commissioner's court in Ranchi has sentenced five men to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for killing advocate Ram Pravesh.
On Monday, the court of Additional Justice Vishal Srivastava, also said that everyone will have to serve an additional four years in jail if they fail to pay the fine.
The killers, identified as Ram Pahan, Raja Kumar Sao, Satish Munda, Satish Pathak and Shivam Kumar, have been asked to pay a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the deceased.
If the compensation amount is not paid on time, then the killer will have to spend an additional year in jail.
The incident took place on December 9, 2019, at Ram's residence at Sarvodaya Nagar in Ranchi, when the victim was killed over a land dispute.
Rajesh Shukla, the vice chairman of Jharkhand State Bar Council, expressed satisfaction over the judgement by the court. He also demanded an advocate protection act for the security of advocates across the country.
