Five construction workers in Chennai were injured when a temporary lift cable snapped, causing them to fall 15 feet.
Five construction workers were injured after the cable of a temporary lift snapped at a construction site inside Chennai’s Kalaignar Centenary Park on Cathedral Road, Royapettah.
Police said the incident occurred around 2.30 pm on Friday (February 13, 2026) when the workers, all hailing from Salem district, were engaged in “Super Tree” construction work at the park.
Police said the temporary lift was being used to transport materials, and it snapped due to overloading, causing the workers to fall from a height of about 15 feet.
The injured were identified as Mariyappan (48), Ganesan (51), Mohan (38), Mahendran (48), and Sampathkumar (47) — all are from Salem. Other workers rushed the injured men to a private hospital, where they were admitted as inpatients. Hospital sources said all five are undergoing treatment and their condition is stable.
Authorities are examining the circumstances leading to the accident, including whether safety norms and load limits were properly followed at the site.
