Farmers stage rail roko, detained

Farmers organizations stage rail rokos in solidarity with Delhi Chalo protest, leading to arrests and train detentions.
Members of farmers organisations, which are part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political), staged rail rokos in the delta region on Monday expressing solidarity with the Delhi Chalo protest of North Indian farmers to press for their demands, including legal guarantee for minimum support price of agriculture produce and crop loan waiver.
The Tiruchi-Karaikal Passenger train suffered a detention a few minutes at Thanjavur Railway Junction on Monday due to the rail roko demonstration by a group of farmers led by P.R.Pandian, State convenor of the SKM (NP). The protesters were taken into custody
According to police, members of various farmers associations gathered at the Railway Junction and squatted on the track blocking the Tiruchi-Karaikal Passenger train from moving out of the Junction.
Similarly, the Ernakulam-Karaikal Express service was also affected at Tiruvarur as a group of farmers blocked the train from moving out of Tiruvarur Junction.
The train service resumed after the track was cleared by the Railway Police who arrested the demonstrators.
In Tiruchi, a group of farmers owing allegiance to the Desiya Thennindhiya Nadhigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam were arrested in Tiruchi after they attempted to stage a rail roko. The farmers were led by the SKM (NP) State president P. Ayyakannu.
Police sources a section of farmers led by Mr. Ayyakannu assembled near the Tiruchi railway junction and took out a march to stage the agitation.
