Eyeing 2023 Telangana polls, BJP set to hold 2-day national executive meet in Hyderabad

With Maharashtra in its kitty, the BJP has consolidated its position in the north-western region and now has set its eyes on southern states, especially Telangana, where it is holding its national executive starting Saturday.
Hyderabad is all decked up as the Bharatiya Janata Party gets ready to storm the Telangana Rashtra Samithi bastion for its two-day national executive meeting on July 2-3, which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting will be attended by the top functionaries of the party from across the country.
To build up momentum ahead of the mega huddle, BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda will be holding a roadshow in Hyderabad today from Trident Hospital to Indira Hospital.
Choosing Hyderabad for its national executive meeting, which is being convened after a long Covid-induced hiatus, has an underlying message. Telangana, which goes to polls in late 2023, is being eyed by the BJP.
The BJP sees an opportunity for a saffron surge in the southern state by bringing down the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government.
“Telangana is a significant choice for this meeting. The BJP’s recent performance in Telangana has been exceptional. So the agenda is planning and to ensure the lotus blooms in Telangana,” says Anil Baluni, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP’s media cell head.
In 2019, the saffron party won four out of 17 seats in the state during the Lok Sabha elections, giving it the impetus it was looking for.
In the 2020 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election, the BJP came second to TRS after it grabbed 48 seats while TRS won 56. While the latter’s performance suffered a dip of 8 per cent, the BJP saw an upward swing of over 25 per cent in comparison to its last performance.
