Ex-Prosecutor Nails The 1 Way Trump Can 'Truly' Handle Crime In DC

CNN legal analyst Elliot Williams explained why the president's plans to roll out with law enforcement don't make them more "efficient."
Ex-federal prosecutor Elliot Williams ripped President Donald Trump for claiming he’d patrol Washington, D.C., with law enforcement Thursday night, weeks after federalizing its police force and sending National Guard troops there.
“If the president truly cared about public safety in the District of Columbia, he could get out of the way of law enforcement and let them do their jobs,” declared Williams, a CNN legal analyst and a D.C. resident.
Williams added that he can’t underscore enough just how much of an “undertaking” it is for the president to go anywhere or for senior government leaders to go for a “ride-along.”
“Yes it’s cool, yes the guys like showing their work off to the higher-ups but everything has to be coordinated and choreographed to make it happen,” Williams said. “And it slows down their work and makes them less efficient as law enforcement officers. This isn’t about right or left or Donald Trump. It’s literally about getting in the way of cops, and I think it’s just a distraction for everybody.”
His comments arrived just hours after Trump announced that he’d be “going out” at night with police and military, who have hit the streets of the nation’s capital in recent weeks despite violent crime hitting a 30-year low there.
