Ensure counselling and care to survivors of human trafficking and sexual abuse: official

Principal Secretary emphasizes counseling, skill training, and NGO support for women and children rescued from trafficking.

Women and children who were rescued from trafficking need proper counselling, skill development training at shelter homes and the necessary help from various agencies, Principal Secretary, Women Development and Child Welfare Department and Senior Citizens, A. Surya Kumari has said. .

“The suviviors of human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual abuse need proper care and help from the NGOs and the government agencies,” the Principal Secretary said while addressing a two-day workshop on ‘Women and Girl Child Protection in Andhra Pradesh’, jointly organised by Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department, Guntur, and Help NGO in Vijayawada on December 5 (Thursday).

Ms. Surya Kumari stressed the need for coordination between various government departments and the NGOs for rendering justice to the trafficking victims.

“NGOs working for women and child protection and survivors of human trafficking need to focus on vulnerable sections and ensure protection for them,” the Principal Secretary said.

WD&CW Joint Director (Schemes) Y. Sailaja and legal officer Sudhakar Babu spoke about domestic violence, reporting and legal process.

Ms. Sailaja asked the management of Sakthi Sadans to extend services to the victims of human trafficking.

Help director N.V.S. Rammohan said the State government has brought GO.MS. No.1 and GO.MS.No.28 for providing rehabilitation and financial aid respectively to the victims of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. He underlined the need for strict implementation of the G.O.s.
