Elon Musk's Boring Co. selected three new cities to build underground tunnels: Dallas, Baltimore and New Orelans.
Three major U.S. cities could soon have a new, privately funded underground tunnel for commuters.
The Boring Company, a tunnel startup founded by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, announced Tuesday, March 24 it selected Baltimore, Dallas and New Orleans as winners of its Tunnel Vision Challenge – a competition that kicked off in January in which winners receive a one-mile underground tunnel for use including a Loop and pedestrian traffic.
The three cities beat out 487 entries from across the nation, according to a post on X from Boring, which said it plans to fund and build all three tunnels.
If only one tunnel "is feasible," Boring said it will fund and build that one. Potential construction dates were not immediately known.
The projects, according to the company's website, involve building 12 to 14-foot diameter tunnels created to "alleviate surface traffic" by using high-speed, all electric transportation.
