Enforcement Directorate searches linked to DMK MP Kathir Anand at Kingston Engineering College and other locations.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted its second day of searches at Kingston Engineering College in Vellore on Saturday. The college is linked to DMK MP D.M. Kathir Anand.
Sources said that the searches were completed at the house of Mr. Anand and his father and DMK Minister Duraimurugan in Katpadi.
Some of the other locations where the searches were completed include the house of ‘Pooncholai’ Srinivasan, organiser of the Vellore district sports development wing of the DMK, in Pallikuppam village, and the house and godown of Srinivasan’s cousin Damodharan near Katpadi. Sources said key documents and cash were recovered from Mr. Srinivasan’s house.
Armed personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed at Kingston Engineering College at Christianpet, a village on the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.
During the searches, neither Mr. Anand nor Mr. Durai Murugan was not present in the Katpadi residence. Mr. Anand is currently abroad and the Minister is in Chennai.
Sources said that the searches were related to a case filed against Mr. Anand by the Income Tax (IT) department on the cash-for-votes during 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The ED action follows Income Tax raids on the houses of DMK leader Pooncholai Srinivasan and his Mr. Damodharan in April 2019. It led to the seizure of ₹10.48 crore from Mr. Damodharan’s place. The money was reportedly meant for distribution to voters, it has been charged.
