ED has filed a prosecution complaint against activist-lawyer Satish Uke and his brother in a money laundering offence connected with a land grabbing case in Nagpur.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a prosecution complaint or chargesheet against activist-lawyer Satish Uke and his brother Pradeep in a money laundering offence connected with a land grabbing case in Nagpur.

The probe agency had filed the prosecution complaint on May 26. A Mumbai special court took cognizance of the same on Thursday.

Advocate Uke has filed several cases against the former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, including one for filing a false election affidavit.

An investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 was initiated on the basis of FIRs registered by Ajni Police Station, Nagpur against both the brothers, invoking, therein, the offence of land grabbing of Original Land owners situated at Nagpur, by creating fake and forged documents.

According to reports, investigation under the PMLA revealed that Satish and Pradip Uke had resorted to fraud and forgery and created a fake Power of Attorney in the name of Chandrashekhar Namdevrao Matte. They also forged government officials' signatures and usurped the land from the original land owners with dubious and malafide intentions, ED said.

“They have thereafter sold some of the land and amassed a huge amount through illegal means and thus have dealt with the proceeds of crime connected with scheduled offence and thereby have committed offences of Section 3 of PMLA 2002. The proceeds of crime in the case have been quantified at Rs. 38 Crore,” the ED said.

Residential premises of Satish and Pradip Uke situated at Nagpur was searched in March and incriminating documents/digital evidence was recovered.
