
Drive against corruption: CBI conducts 'surprise checks' at offices of 30 govt depts across 25 states

As part of a nationwide drive against corruption, the CBI conducted joint surprise checks in government offices in 25 states on Friday.
The CBI on Friday conducted a nationwide special drive against corruption, searching the offices of several government departments in different parts of the country. As part of a preventive vigilance exercise, joint surprise checks were undertaken in coordination with the vigilance wing of several central government departments and organisations. Officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said surprise checks were conducted at the premises of 30 government departments and organisations in more than 25 states/UTs.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
