Do not let disability come in the way of success, NTR district Collector tells children

NTR District Collector emphasizes determination over disability, encourages differently-abled individuals to reach their full potential through sports.

Disability is not an obstacle to success, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha said, adding that disability looks insignificant before talent and determination.

Inaugurating a sports competition on Thursday for differently-abled children at the IGMC stadium in Vijayawada in connection with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed on December 3, the Collector said disability may be of body and mind, but not of heart.

“Differently-abled persons are more determined than non-differently-abled persons. If they receive the required support, they can reach great heights,” the Collector said, after interacting with the participating children.

He urged the differently-abled children to not let their disabilities come in the way of success. “You should increase your self-confidence by participating in sports and every single participant should feel like a winner. Such competitions bring out the hidden talent in everyone,” Mr. Lakshmisha said, instructing officials and society to do their bit in helping the differently-abled persons reach their goals and dreams.

He asked the officials to encourage differently-abled people to exhibit their talent in district-level sports competitions, so that they reach national and international levels.

Department for the Welfare of Differently-abled and Senior Citizens, NTR district, Officer V. Kamaraju said the administration is organising competitions in chess, carrom, softball, volleyball, running, tricycle race, shot put and discus throw for differently-abled students in junior, senior, women, and men’s categories. He said that more than 300 differently-abled students from various schools in the district are participating in the competitions.

The winners in today’s competitions are: Bindu Sri, Stuart, Yashwanth, Madhusree, Aparna, Bhavyashree, Sanjay from the Vijaya Mary Integrated School For the Blind; Pradeep, Sivakumar, Sreenivas, Pramod Kumar from the Government Hostel for Differently-Abled Boys; Sai Murali, Girisha Siva Prasad, Mahesh, Vijay from the Sirisha Rehabilitation Center in Kanuru; Niharika, Vaishnavi, Yakob, Phani Kumar from Madina School; Harisha Reshma, Naga Sudha, Hemanth, Chandu, Gopichand, Murari from Madonna College for the Deaf.
