Do not allow outside food into hostels run by welfare departments, directs A.P. Minister

Minister Savita bans outside food in BC hostels after students fall ill from contaminated food, orders strict supervision.

Minister for Backward Classes (BC) Welfare S. Savita has instructed the officials and hostel staff not to allow outside food into BC hostels and Gurukul schools across the State. 

Thirteen girls from Rampuram BC Gurukul School, in Penukonda Mandal of Sri Sathya Sai District, experienced mild illness. After receiving primary treatment at the Rampuram Primary Health Center, they were discharged on Tuesday (December 17) morning.

Responding to the reports, Ms. Savita spoke over the phone with the students, doctors, and Gurukul staff. The doctors informed the Minister that the students suffered mild illness due to consuming contaminated food. The doctors told her that all the students had recovered and were discharged. The Gurukul staff mentioned that the students were now resting in the hostel, she said.

Even after being discharged, the Minister directed that the students remain under medical supervision in the hostel and that regular health updates be provided. The Minister also inquired about the health of other students at the Gurukul school. She was informed that all were doing well. It was also revealed that since it was Sunday, some students had purchased food items from nearby shops, which led to their illness. Ms. Savita expressed a strong displeasure over the situation and ordered that no outside food be allowed into the hostel. She also instructed that under no circumstances should students be allowed to leave the hostel.
