Tamil Nadu BJP chief, K Annamalai, slammed DMK and its allies for boycotting the unveiling of poet Subramania Bharati’s statue at the Raj Bhavan. The BJP leader called the move by the DMK and its allies ‘an insult to the great poet’.
Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, K Annamalai, who participated in the Governor's tea party and the inauguration of poet Subramania Bharati’s statue, said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagan (DMK) and its allies not participating in the event can only be seen as an insult to the poet.
The BJP state president said that, “DMK and its allies had committed to the dates, but failing to attend the event can only be seen as a way of insulting the great poet.”
The DMK and its allies had boycotted the tea party and the statue unveiling over the anti-NEET bill issue.
After meeting the Governor on Thursday, DMK ministers Thangam Thennarasu and Ma Subramanian said that the Governor had given no proper time frame with regard to the NEET issue.
“The Governor, by not giving his assent to the bill passed by the assembly, is acting against the elected representatives of the people and the interest of the general public,” said the DMK ministers.
DMK's allies CPM, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) had also sent out statements stating that they would boycott the Governor's events.
