Diversions, delays at Kolkata airport due to bad weather

Due to bad weather in Kolkata on August 19, eight flights were delayed and diverted to different destinations between 5 pm to 6:30 pm.
In view of the bad weather in Kolkata, flight operations at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose airport were affected for over an hour on Friday evening. The affected flights were destined for Kolkata and the rough weather is said to have prevailed from 5 pm to 6 pm.
Sources confirmed that a total of eight flights were diverted to different destinations, wherein five flights were diverted to Guwahati and two were rescheduled to Bhubaneswar and one had been re-routed to Ranchi. It was around 6:30 that airlines resumed operations and flights resumed their landings on Kolkata airport's runways.
An update by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at the time read, "Depression over Northwest and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centered about 200 km east-southeast of Balasore and 130 km east-southeast of Digha at 1130 IST of today. To cross the coast b/w Balasore & Sagar Islands by today evening."

In the latest development, the IMD's Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar took to Twitter to shared, "Deep rainfall is active over West Bengal and North Odisha region.It is currently centered at 20 kms north north east of Digha, it will move west north west and will gradually weaken during next 24 hours."
