
Disabled individuals receive aid, assistive devices at Samajik Adhikarita Shivir

The aid and assistive devices were distributed to the beneficiaries at block and panchayat levels while adhering to the Covid-19 pandemic protocol.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) organised a ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ for the distribution of aids and assistive devices to Divyangjan (differently-abled) at Jamnagar's Dhanwantari Auditorium.In the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir, a total of 6,225 aid and assistive devices valued at Rs 3.57 crore were distributed free of cost to over 3,805 Divyangjan under the ADIP Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.The inaugural function of the distribution camp was virtually attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot.The main objective of the government’s ADIP Scheme, in operation since 1981, is to assist people in procuring assistive aid and appliances that can help in their socio-economic development.Mentioning the enactment of the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016, Union Minster Thavar Chand Gehlot pointed out that the ministry has decided to establish five ’Divyangta Khel Kendras’ in five zones of the country. DEPwD Secretary Anjali Bhawra said the government has taken several steps for providing employment for Divyangjan and skill training programmes were being conducted to empower people with disabilities to open avenues for self-employment and opportunity in the public and private sector.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
