In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Dhinakaran said the leaks developed by the anicut on account of the recent floods in the Then Pennaiyar river of the Cuddalore district had affected farming in about 4,000 acres. Even though a sum of ₹32 crore was originally set apart for the strengthening of the anicut, agriculturists in the area had complained that the “tardy” progress in the execution had caused the damage to the anicut.
