Dhanbad judge murder: Jharkhand court sentences two men to life in prison

A court in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district on Saturday sentenced two men to life in prison for the murder of Additional District and Sessions Judge Uttam Anand.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday sentenced two accused in the Dhanbad judge's murder case to life imprisonment.
The accused, Rahul Verma and Lakhan Verma, were charged under sections 302 (Punishment for Murder), 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of an offence, or giving false information to a screen offender) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code for the murder of Dhanbad Additional Sessions court judge Uttam Anand.
The special CBI court headed by judge Rajnikanth Pathak also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused.
Judge Uttam Anand was out for a morning walk when he was hit by an auto driven by Lakhan Verma.
The judge was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries later. One year later, the special CBI court has now sentenced both the accused to life in prison.
The case was first probed by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Jharkhand Police before the High Court took cognisance of the matter.
The probe was later handed over to the CBI, who found Lakhan and Rahul Verma were involved in the crime.
