
Denizens urged to be cautious while buying packaged drinking water in Vizag

Food Safety authorities conduct raids on packaged drinking water units in city, testing samples for quality parameters in Hyderabad lab.
Substandard packaged drinking water is said to have been sold in the city, according to complaints from the public and raids conducted by the Food Safety authorities.
The collected samples during the raids will be sent to the food laboratory at Nacharam, Hyderabad for testing.
The food safety officials conducted raids on some packaged drinking water units in Gnanapuram, Janda Chettu, HB Colony (Seethammadhara), Kailasapuram, Sivajipalem and Thatichetlapalem in the city.
The samples will be checked for 10 quality parameters such as total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrates, mineral oil, chlorides, sulphates, alkalinity, residual free chloride, pH, turbidity and fluoride, said the officials.
“We have collected samples from suspected packaged water manufacturers. We have sent those samples to a lab in Hyderabad. We will file cases based on the lab reports. We urge people to be cautious while buying bottled drinking water. In case of any doubt in terms of quality or quantity, consumers can register complaints with us,” said Food Safety Officer GV. Apparao.
Sources said that during the summer, around 200 plants and 1,000 dealers in the city sell around 10 lakh litres of packaged drinking water per day.
