The crime branch of Delhi Police arrested two members of a gang involved in interstate highway robberies. The accused used to rob passengers after offering them rides in their private taxis at low fares.
The crime branch of Delhi Police busted a gang of interstate highway robbers on Monday and arrested two for robbing passengers after offering them rides in their private taxis at low fares.
The gang members identified as Mehraj and Gulzar, along with their associates, recently robbed a resident from Uttrakhand of Rs 8,500 and his ATM card after offering him a ride to his destination from the Anand Vihar bus terminal on July 14.
They forced the victim to ask his family to deposit money in his account. They withdrew the money and left the victim at a secluded place in Greater Noida, after driving him around for more than two hours.
The accused replaced the number plate of the car with an old car to avoid getting caught. One of the accused named Mehraj used to drive an Ola cab. He has committed several crimes in the past and has been in jail since 2019. He was released in 2022.
After his release, he once again formed a gang and started robbing people. The gang has reportedly committed three robberies so far.
The police have also seized a Swift Dzire car and mobile phone from the possession of the accused.
