
Delhi: MCD increases capacity of crematoriums, burial grounds amid rising Covid deaths

Following a meeting with the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) decided on Saturday to increase the capacity of crematoriums and burial grounds throughout the city.
With Delhi witnessing nearly a ten-fold increase in the number of daily deaths due to Covid-19 since the beginning of this month, all the cremation grounds and burial grounds in Delhi have increased their capacity. Following a meeting with the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) decided on Saturday to increase the capacity of crematoriums and burial grounds throughout the city. A worker at Delhi's largest cremation facility, Nigam Bodh Ghat, told India Today TV, "It's 5 pm, and we've already got more than 55 Covid bodies. As far as we can tell, the situation on the ground would deteriorate. There are long lines of families waiting for their turn to cremate their loved ones.”
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
