Delhi Police arrested a 38-year-old criminal wanted in two cases of rape and alleged trafficking of minor girls for eight years. The accused, identified as Brahma Dev Chaudhary, a resident of Surya Vihar, Faridabad, Haryana, was arrested by the Special Staff of North-West police. Chaudhary was also involved in forceful employment of minor girls to work as house helpers via a placement agency, police said.
The criminal was on the run to evade investigation in two unsolved cases from 2014 and 15 and was arrested on June 1, 2022. Subhash Nagar police received a complaint about the trafficking of a 13-year-old minor girl. The complaint stated that the girl belonged to a poor family in Assam and was trafficked by a person from Assam to Delhi on the pretext of a job.
The girl, who worked a domestic help in Kothi for a week, was returned to the office of Placement agency in Delho's Shakurpur where the accused raped her. She was again employed in a Kothi at Pitampura, where she worked for a couple of days.
When the victim escaped from the Kothi, a complaint was filed with the police.
Another case was registered in which a 15-year-old minor girl alleged that she was trafficked by the accused Chaudhary from Assam to Delhi. He kept her in a house in Shakurpur, Delhi, where she was raped by him and was forcefully employed for working as a house help at various locations in Delhi. She managed to escape from a house in Greater Kailash, Delhi, where she was last employed and reached the police station for a complaint.
Upon receiving the complaints, police launched an investigation to arrest the accused and non-bailable warrants were issued against him. Raids were conducted at his possible hide-outs in Delhi, NCR and Bihar but he managed to escape. The process of proclamation against him was completed and, subsequently, he was declared a proclaimed offender in both cases.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
