
Delhi: Gusty winds, light rainfall bring relief from scorching heat

Delhi and adjoining areas experienced some respite from the heat due to thunderstorms and gusty winds on Thursday evening. The temperature at some places climbed down by 10 degrees Celsius by the day’s end.
Days after facing the scorching heat, the Delhiites experienced a cooler evening on Thursday with light rain and gusty winds. The arrival of the fresh western disturbance has contributed to bringing the mercury below 40 degrees Celsius.
It was a much-needed relief to residents of Delhi-NCR reeling under a continuous, extended heatwave.
The mercury climbed down by almost 10 degrees Celsius by the day's end.
While West Delhi and Southwest Delhi received more rainfall as compared to the Central and East Delhi areas. The flight movements were disrupted due to rainfall and dust storms.

As per the report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the western disturbance has been affecting weather conditions in several areas for a few days now.
The day started with a cloudy sky and a pleasant morning but progressively it turned into a clear sky in Safdarjung - the base station for Delhi - recording a maximum temperature at 39.4 degrees Celsius.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
