
Delhi constable kidnaps burglar, demands Rs 3 lakh ransom, but plan goes awry

A head constable in Delhi kidnapped a burglar who was involved in a recent robbery and sought Rs 3 lakh as ransom. The police later traced the kidnapped man to the constable.
A Delhi Police head constable, posted with the Jamia Nagar police station, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a robbery accused and demanding Rs 3 lakh from his family to release him. The kidnapped man was rescued from inside the police station. On May 25, a woman in Delhi's Sunlight Colony police station complained that her brother has been kidnapped and a ransom of Rs 3 lakh was sought by the abductors. In a phone call to report the matter, she said, “Right now I am standing at the Sarai Kale bus stand with Rs 1 lakh, they have asked for Rs 3 lakh.” Keeping in view the sensitivity of the call, police of Sunlight Colony reached the spot, where the caller identified as Bharti met the officers who were apprised that her brother Varun, a resident of Jawahar Park, had been kidnapped by some unknown persons and she has been receiving ransom calls through WhatsApp call on her mobile phone from her brother’s number.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
