
Cyclone Asani: Depression to intensity into cyclonic storm in 24 hours, heavy rain predicted in Andamans

The weather department predicted that the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are experiencing heavy rain as Cyclone Asani approaches.
The depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify first into a deep depression and later into a cyclonic storm on Monday, the India Meteorological Department informed on Sunday night. The weather department added that Cyclone Asani is projected to move along and off the Andaman Islands towards Myanmar and south Bangladesh coast.
Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration had started making necessary arrangements as heavy rain and strong winds lashed the region as Cyclone Asani approaches.
1) The IMD tweeted, “Depression over southeast Bay of Bengal, about 200km north-northeast of Car Nicobar (Nicobar Islands), 100 km south-southeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), to intensify into a deep depression in the next 12hrs and into a cyclonic storm in next 12hrs.”

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said Cyclone Asani is projected to move along and off the Andaman Islands towards Myanmar and south Bangladesh coast. He clarified that the cyclone will not make a landfall in the Andaman Islands.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
