Chennai Port's upgraded cruise terminal, featuring enhanced facilities, will be ready by April after a ₹29.8 crore renovation.
Chennai Port’s revamped cruise terminal is nearing completion and will be fully ready by April first week.
At Chennai port, whose land area extends to 714.54 acres with 420 acres of water spread area, this long-awaited infrastructure upgrade will ensure passengers to conveniently embark and disembark through a swanky terminal.
Thus far, there were no dedicated spaces for embarkation and disembarkation, dampening passenger experience. Subsequently, as part of Cruise Bharat Mission and Sagarmala programme, Chennai Port Authority took up the project to enhance cruise infrastructure at the Chennai Port.
The Chennai Port Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NBCC (India) Limited in March 2024 for architectural, engineering, planning, design, and project management for renovating the cruise terminal.
In the modernisation work carried out nearly eight years back, the northern part of the terminal was available for passengers.
But this proved to be inadequate and the port decided to increase the terminal’s southern side area and improve the facilities.
