Corporation gets truck-mounted road sweeping machine at ₹ 85.87 lakh

Madurai Corp. launches new truck-mounted road sweeping machine to swiftly remove sand from roadsides, preventing freak accidents & enabling pedestrians to walk safely. Costing ₹85.87 lakh, it can remove 6 cubic metres of sand at a time & was procured under Swach Bharat 2.0. Minister P. Moorthy inaugurated cleaning works at Iyer Bungalow.
The Corporation of Madurai received a new truck-mounted road sweeping machine at a cost of ₹85.87 lakh on Tuesday.
Launching the new vehicle on Netaji Road in zone 3, Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said that it would help clean the sand accumulated swiftly on roadsides. This would prevent freak accidents and enable pedestrians to walk safely.
Earlier, the sand accumulated was removed by conservancy workers and now the machines should be able to do it faster, officials said.
They said that they had identified such sand accumulated on the roadsides in all the 100 wards. The vehicle can remove around 6 cubic metres of sand at a time. It has been procured under the Swach Bharat 2.0 programme. Collector M.S. Sangeetha, Mayor Indrani Pon Vasanth, Commissioner L. Madhubalan and others were present.
On Monday, Minister P. Moorthy inaugurated the cleaning works at Iyer Bungalow in the presence of Ms. Sangeetha and other officials, a press release said.
The Madras High Court on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, permitted Anna University to deposit, in three monthly instalments, an amount of ₹73.23 lakh before the Central Government Industrial Tribunal (CGIT) as a condition to hear a statutory appeal preferred by the varsity against the Coimbatore Regional Provident Fund (RPF) Commissioner’s order to pay dues to the tune of ₹2.44 crore to contract employees.
