Yadgir CMC Congress members face disqualification threat for violating party whip in municipal council election.
Four Congress members of the Yadgir City Municipal Council (CMC) are facing the threat of disqualification from their municipal council membership after the party filed a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner through the CMC office.
On Monday, Channakeshavagouda, an elected member from ward number 11, filed a complaint before the Yadgir Deputy Commissioner saying that Sana Fatima, Shantamma, Mansoor Ahmed Afghani and Nirmala Bhojaraj Jagannath have violated a whip issued to them by the Congress with regard to the election held for the posts of municipal president and vice-president earlier this year.
The complaint has sought their disqualification under Section 3 (1)(b) of the Karnataka Local Authorities (Prohibition of Defection) Act 1987.
“The party issued a whip to all members elected on the party symbol. However, they violated the whip and remained absent for the election. I have filed a complaint as per the direction of the party high command,” Mr. Channakeshavagouda said.
Yadgir CMC has 31 seats. Of these, the BJP has 16, the Congress 12, the Janata Dal(S) two apart from the one Independent member.
Also, Congress MP G. Kumar Naik, Congress MLA Channareddy Patil Tunnur and BJP MLC Chalavadi Narayanaswamy have the power to cast their votes.
Lalita Anpur from the BJP and Jayamma Maddi from the Janata Dal(S), with the support of Congress members, contested for the municipal president post, as the post was reserved for General Women. Whereas Rukiya Begum from the BJP and Ghousiya Begum from the Congress contested for the municipal vice-president post, with this post being reserved for BCA-Women.
