TPCC demands BRS to pass resolution welcoming BC Census Bill, criticizes family-centric leadership and praises Congress government's initiatives.
The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has demanded that the principal Opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) pass a resolution during its public meeting at Elkathurthy to welcome the BC Census Bill passed by the Congress government in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan here on Sunday, TPCC official spokesperson Changani Dayakar said the State government had taken the caste census exercise seriously to ensure 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs). He demanded that the BRS, if it was sincere for the welfare of the BC communities, should formally applaud the Congress government’s initiative by passing a resolution during its meeting.
Criticising the leadership structure of the BRS, he said that ever since its inception as the TRS, the party had been controlled by the one and only Kalvakuntla family. He demanded a change in the top leadership within the BRS. “While the Congress has a history of appointing a Dalit as national president and a BC as the Telangana unit chief, the BRS remains a family-centric outfit,” he said.
Mr. Dayakar alleged that the BRS leaders had amassed wealth during its rule. He claimed that welfare schemes which could not be implemented during the BRS’s decade-long rule were achieved by the Congress government within 15 months.
The Congress leader further stated that Telangana had emerged as a destination for global investments after the Congress came to power.
