Ramanathapuram district Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon on Thursday inspected school vehicles and chaired a meeting with private schools to ensure compliance of rules and safety regulations.
As about 550 school buses belonging to 69 private schools were being used for transportation of students, the meeting shed light on the importance that should be accorded to the vehicles by the school management in maintaining the vehicles in good condition and in sticking to the rules listed for the operation of vehicles.
Mr. Simranjeet Singh Kahlon inspected the condition of the vehicles and checked whether emergency exit, fire extinguisher, step heights, first aid box, CCTV camera in front and backside of the vehicle, speed control device, among others were present as per the guidelines issued for safe operation of school vehicles.
Licences of vehicles that were found to be not meeting the safety standards were temporarily cancelled and they were given instructions to rectify them to restore their licenses for operation.
The Collector instructed the drivers and conductors to ensure the working condition of the bus every day before taking it out for transportation.
Also, he asked them to maintain the advised speed limit to avoid accidents.
