CNN Data Chief Flags This Major Way That Newsom's Trump Trolling Is 'Working'

Harry Enten explained just how the California governor is seeing a "rising tide of support" thanks to the social media strategy.
CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten on Thursday revealed that California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s trolling tactics against Donald Trump are absolutely “showing signs of working,” leading to growing interest among Democrats in a possible Newsom run for president in 2028.
Enten, in a segment with CNN’s Kate Bolduan, turned to a recent Politico-Citrin Center-Possibility Lab survey that found 75% of registered Democratic voters wanted or were “excited” about a Newsom bid.
The figure marks a massive jump from 2023, when just 35% of the demographic were “excited” about the prospect of the governor running for president.
“My goodness gracious! A rising tide of support for Gavin Newsom,” said Enten, who added that a majority of Democrats in his home state didn’t want the governor to run for president back in 2023.
Newsom’s Trump-like social media makeover — which has featured a storm of all-caps messages, the use of artificial intelligence-generated images, rants and name-calling — has sparked right-wing outrage from the likes of Vice President JD Vance, Kid Rock, Fox News hosts and, as of Friday afternoon, Trump himself.
