Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurates Ernakulam Market Complex, aiming to transform it into a tourist destination with modern facilities.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the newly opened Ernakulam Market Complex would soon be a tourism destination.
He was inaugurating the market complex here on Saturday (December 14). Mr. Vijayan said that well-known markets around the world also serve as tourist centres, and the new market complex will be added to that list.
“The market complex is an example of how concerted efforts can lead to the timely completion of projects. It is essential for everyone to come together for development. This approach can resolve many issues,” the Chief Minister said.
The market features all modern facilities. Plans were under way to transform Kochi into a green city by installing solar panels. Besides, there were projects aimed at making the State garbage-free and ensuring clean drinking water for all, Mr. Vijayan said.
The Chief Minister said that extremely poor families would be lifted out of that category by November next year. Steps were being taken under the aegis of local bodies to achieve the goal.
Factors leading to extreme poverty had been identified by local bodies, based on which interventions would be made. Besides, the help of Malayali expatriates had been sought, he said.
