Tamil Nadu government conducts civil defence mock exercises at major reservoirs to test preparedness, no need for public panic.
Continuing with the civil defence mock exercises in Tamil Nadu, the State government has planned such drills at major reservoirs under the control of the Water Resources Department during this week.
Officials concerned will hold a tabletop exercise initially and the District Collectors / Commissioners, Greater Chennai Corporation would conduct on-site civil defence mock drills in select areas in the second half of the week, an official release from the State government stated.
Following instructions from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, civil defence mock exercises have been conducted in vital installations like ports, atomic power stations, airports and thermal power stations, among others, since May 7.
“The civil defence exercise is only a mock drill to check the preparedness in select vital installations. All other functions in other places will go on normally. There is no need for any panic or apprehension among the public about this exercise,” it said.
