MGM Healthcare launches personalized weight loss clinic in Chennai, focusing on metabolic health and lifestyle modifications.
A private hospital in Chennai has launched a clinic for personalised weight loss programs.
Among its treatment plans, MGM Healthcare’s ‘Nalam: Institute for Metabolic Disorders and Hormonal Health’ will offer a personalised three-month weight management program designed to shed excess fat, and to improve blood sugar levels, and cholesterol, doctors said at the launch of the clinic on Saturday.
Pointing out the link between the rise in obesity and changes in lifestyle, M. Swamikannu, Director & Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine said that there are several factors that contribute to it, including its hormonal causes, psychological effects. Efforts should focus on addressing these changes through lifestyle modifications and if required, interventions like medication or surgery.
Urjitha Rajagopalan, Director, MGM Healthcare, said, “In India, nearly one in four people are overweight or obese. But it’s not just about the statistics or the larger population, it’s individuals who battle hormonal and metabolic problems, which often start at a young age. These problems go beyond cosmetic concerns, as weight loss is not just about appearance, it’s about health and wellness,” she said. Dr. Rajagopalan said the aim of the clinic is to improve metabolic health and enhance quality of life.
Actor Khusboo Sundar, tracing her weight loss journey, said that when one is physically healthy, it impacts not only their body but also the mind. She shared how, as she lost weight and became healthier, she noticed improvements in her skin, energy levels, and overall mood. The actor also advocated mindful eating and indulging in a healthy manner.
