Mangaluru City Police and Dakshina Kannada District Police join forces to combat crime, under new leadership.
The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and the Dakshina Kannada District Police will work together to curb criminal activities in the entire district, said Sudheer Kumar Reddy and K. Arun, who on Friday assumed the charge as the Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, respectively, on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters after the law and order review meeting chaired by district in charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao here on Saturday, the officials said both the units would undertake joint operations to contain crimes as well as to nab criminals whenever they indulge in committing offences in the district.
Mr. Reddy said he along with the Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police and other senior officers, would work as a team to nab criminals. The team-work would extend to curbing all illegal and unauthorised activities in Dakshina Kannada.
Responding to a query on hate speeches and abusive posts on social media platforms, Mr. Reddy said no speech should incite commission of crimes. There was a marked difference between freedom of speech and inciting people to commit crimes. There were adequate legal provisions to curb hate speeches and the police would appropriately invoke those provisions, he said.
People in the region were wise and strict followers of law. Whenever there was any communal violence or abetment to such activities, the police would take appropriate action. To another query on comprehensive reshuffle of lower-rung police officials, Mr. Reddy said all officials were good. If there was any failure on their part, he would own the responsibility. He hoped that all the officials would effectively discharge their duties under seniors’ guidance.
